Christmas comes but once a year, and this year we’re all about that extra festive cheer; we all deserve it, right? Hands down, the most magical night of the year, Christmas Eve is the official time to put down the wrapping paper and tinsel, crack open the mulled wine, and switch into full-on festive mode.

And there’s nothing we love more here at Treatbox than savouring those magical moments and making precious time with loved ones extra special. And, with that in mind, we're sharing some of our favourite Christmas Eve traditions, old and new.

Light the way

By the time Christmas Eve comes around, your whole neighbourhood will be lit up like, well, Christmas! So, don your Christmas jumper or festive PJs, bundle up in coats, gloves, and scarves, and head outside to check out all the twinkling lights. You could even sing Christmas carols or, if you’re feeling competitive, challenge your friends and family to a Christmas lights bingo!

HUG IN A MUG

Why not indulge in a decadent hot chocolate once you’re home from your ‘light’ walk or when you’ve finally finished all your Christmas wrapping? The best way to warm the cockles and get into that cosy festive feel. Make sure you’ve got your Christmas mugs at the ready and plenty of cream and marshmallows! Or, why not start a new tradition of gifting a hot chocolate TreatBox, with everything you need for individual yummy hot chocs?

CHRISTMAS MOVIE TIME

If you’ve never indulged in a Christmas movie marathon, there’s no better time to start than on Christmas Eve! Get comfy, put on your Christmas jammies and cosy socks, grab a selection box and get stuck in. From Home Alone to The Holiday (and even Die Hard, for the true, die-hard fans!), it’s the ultimate way to get in the Christmas mood. And, no festive movie night is complete without your own personalised mug for your hot chocolate or mulled wine — we actually believe it tastes even better! In fact, we think Christmas movie time is such a great tradition that we’ve created our very own ‘this is my Christmas movie watching set!’

O CHRISTMAS TREE

Why not make Christmas Eve the night you add that final decoration to your Christmas tree? It’s the simple but savoured moments at this time of year that really make it extra special. Gather everyone around, put your Christmas playlist on and add that final touch. And for a unique present, gift your loved ones a decoration for their own tree.

‘Twas the night before Christmas

In many cultures, Christmas Eve is the time for present giving and a Christmas Eve box is a gorgeous way to unwrap the season of giving. Watch your kids' eyes light up as they open a box of goodies before Santa has even set off. You can include lots of little presents such as socks, a Christmas mug, and hot chocolate (our build-your-own boxes are perfect for these). All the makings for the ultimate Christmas Eve. And for the adults… Well, why not treat them to a relaxing Christmas box of their very own!

CHRISTMAS BOOK FLOOD

One of our favourite festive traditions is the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod, which means “Christmas Book Flood”. New books are gifted on Christmas Eve so that friends and family can cosy up with a good book as they enter the holiday season —how cute! We reckon this would go down an absolute treat with a Christmas mug and sock set to add to the cosy vibe! The more, the merrier! A brilliant and oh-so-thoughtful gift for your loved ones.

Whatever your Christmas Eve traditions, it’s the perfect time to savour the moment and embrace traditions. Maybe you’ll find something new to add to your Christmas Eve festivities that you’ll cherish for years to come!
